Hi there,
I wanted to post some great old photos I have of the Dubied and Santagostino factory. In addition there are some knit manufacturing facilities in and around Paris. I just love browsing museum and material culture websites for images of working class and factory settings. Enjoy!

Hi, Haven’t visited your site in awhile, great photo's and a lovely collection you have created.

I don't have an instagram account but wanted to comment on picture dated 17/06/14, hope you don't mind me commenting here? the photo is of a piece of grey lace fabric on the picture you mentioned you cast on then transfer the stitches, why don’t you do a single-bed cast on?? and to save time on hand sewing the edge you can do a press-off draw thread. If your not sure how to do these techniques I could try and explain?

Kind Regards

Missy

Hi missy,
Thanks for your kind words and suggestions.

To explain my current method: I am working within my comfort level and am self taught so my knowledge base is uneven. I had a look in my manual and there's a section called "separation by draw thread" and separation by press off."Maybe these are close to what you mean? I was actually thinking some kind of e-wrap on waste yarn would be the way to go, but I will definitely experiment. I am the type of person that understands visually so if you tried to describe with words I don't think it would sink in:)

I’m also a visual person and find it far easier to be shown a technique, I don’t think I would have ever started knitting if I had to learn from a book.

I always cast on single bed, and then proceed from there, means there is no need to do a draw thread and no fiddling around with the wire.

About "Santagostino factory in Niguarda" ... Niguarda is a district of Milan, so you shuold better write "Santagostino factory in Milan (Niguarda)"
